Michael is the Vice President for Microsoft’s Global Real Estate and Security organization. He is responsible for enabling every person and every organization at Microsoft to achieve more through the delivery of connected, accessible, sustainable workplaces in a secure environment. This involves the planning, delivery, operations and security of Microsoft’s worldwide real estate portfolio, which comprises over 38M square feet across 113 countries. Michael directs the full scope of the real estate life cycle activities, including planning (portfolio, country, site), acquisitions and dispositions, transaction management, design/construction, and facility and services operations.

Michael also holds global responsibility for vital security functions including; operations, investigations, risk mitigation, crisis management, executive protection, strategy, and intelligence. Part of his security responsibilities include Microsoft’s interconnected Virtual Security Operations Centers (VSOCs), which oversee Global Security monitoring and response, which have become well known in the security industry as a leading model for conducting operations globally.

Under his leadership, the team continue to use Microsoft technology to create innovative solutions in both real estate and security that increase operational efficiencies, improve the employee workplace experience and further reduce the company’s environmental impact.

Prior to this role, Michael was the Senior Controller for Microsoft’s Cloud & Enterprise business, overseeing divisional financial processes. This included long-range planning, budgeting, forecasting and monthly and quarterly close activities. Additionally, he was accountable for financial planning and analysis support for Microsoft’s global development centers in Israel, India, China, Denmark and Fargo, North Dakota. Before his controllership role, Michael was a Senior Director in Microsoft’s Internal Audit Group, where he led the companies’ Product Groups and Retail Stores audit programs.

Before joining Microsoft in 2005 as the Director of Shared Services, he accrued thirteen years of business and financial management experience with Spherion Corporation as Director of Finance and Accounting Shared Services, ANC Rental Corp. (Alamo Rent A Car & National Car Rental) as Director of Accounting Services; Aramark Services as Controller; and as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Alabama A&M University, and an MBA with a concentration in Accounting and International Business. He is also a graduate of Microsoft’s Senior Leader Lab, Corporate Leadership Bench and Microsoft’s Finance Leadership Bench programs.
